Simplicity and Splendour
Five days to enjoy ‘ la bella vita ‘ ….with twice daily yoga, guided sightseeing and exploration in Rome…then back to the Villa for fabulous food, rest and relaxation.
Villa del Cardinale, Rome, Italy
Saturday 6 June – Thursday 11 June 2020
Cost: Twin share from £835 , Single from £1040
Would you like to try something a little different and combine your yoga with a little shopping, cultural sightseeing and italian gelato?
Then join me at the fabulous Villa del Cardinale for this ‘semi urban yoga mini 5 day adventure’.
Staying just 20 minutes from the centre of the Eternal City of Rome, we will be housed in stunning surroundings and warmly hosted by the owner Marina and her assistant Stefania.
In our twice daily yoga sessions we will explore the beauty and simplicity of yoga as a practice of self exploration, self care and self appreciation. Taking a little time away from the every day routines and demands allows us to tune in to who and how we are, as an act of pure self kindness. Enjoy the splendour of your surroundings and your self.
As the Buddah wisely said …..”You, yourself, as much as anyone in the universe, deserves your love and attention”
Who will this retreat suit? – This event is suitable for all levels. Complete beginners are very welcome to come along. All that is required is that you bring an open mind and a willingness to learn. For those with more experience in their practice, there will be an opportunity to re-visit basics with a new eye and use this to refresh and deepen practice… and learn more!
Non Yogi Partners – If you would like to bring a friend or partner who isn’t interested in joining the yoga, they would be most welcome.
Please note: The week is not suitable for people who are only interested in strong physical yoga as a variety of practices will be offered.
The Venue & Area
Villa del Monte is a unique and special family home located close to the centre of Rome. It has a rich history dating back to 1st century AD, Roman remains in the garden being recorded in the archives at the National Museum of Antiquity.

The fully equipped yoga room is spacious, has a vaulted ceiling and overlooks the garden. For warmer days we will also make use of the lovely, shaded alfresco yoga shala in the garden.
The villa has two gardens. The upper garden includes an area with archeological remains. The lower garden has a lawn, patio and porch which are ideal for strolling or relaxing with a book!
Other facilities include a pool, table tennis and badminton court in the grounds. Guests can also have access to tennis at a local club 5 minutes walk away.

Half Day Excursions
We are so lucky to have the owner of Villa del Monte to guide us to some interesting spots on our 2 half day excursions. These are likely to take in the following places:
Colorful Trastevere – this funky, bohemian area is known for traditional and innovative trattorias, craft beer pubs and artisan shops. A lively crowd buzzes around Piazza di San Calisto and Piazza Santa Maria in Trastevere, the site of a gilded, mosaic-filled church.
A stroll along Isola Tiberina, The Tiber Island, the only island in the part of the Tiber which runs through Rome.
Exploration on foot around the Ghetto of Rome which was a Jewish ghetto established in 1555 in the Rione Sant’Angelo, in Rome, Italy, in the area surrounded by present-day Via del Portico d’Ottavia, Lungotevere dei Cenci, Via del Progresso and Via di Santa Maria del Pianto, close to the River Tiber and the Theatre of Marcellus.
Piazza di Spagna, at the bottom of the Spanish Steps, is one of Romes most famous squares.
The Pantheon is a former Roman temple, now a church, on the site of an earlier temple commissioned by Marcus Agrippa during the reign of Augustus. It was completed by the emperor Hadrian and probably dedicated about 126 AD
Piazza del Popolo this square is yet another beautiful place to stop, rest & admire the view from one of the many cafes and restaurants.
Piazza Venezia is the central hub of Rome in which several thoroughfares intersect, including the Via dei Fori Imperiali and the Via del Corso.
The Roman Forum, also known by its Latin name Forum Romanum, is a rectangular forum surrounded by the ruins of several important ancient government buildings at the center of the city of Rome.
These are subject to change.
Therapies – An excellent local massage therapist can be booked in advance
